This is the Terms of Use of the Virtual Forge
Terms of the OSOR.EU Service
- The Virtual Forge service is provided by the OSOR.eu, within the context of the OSOR.eu project for European Public Administrations and open source Communities which would like to operate a repository of open source applications funded by or of interest for public administrations.
- The Virtual Forge shall be operated by the Virtual Forge Provider according to the "10 principles for Virtual Forges" of OSOR.eu
- The Virtual Forge service is provided by OSOR.eu "as is" with no express or implied warranty for accessibility although the platform has been built to provide a High Availability service. While it is the intention to maintain the Virtual Forge service on a long term, there is no formal guarantee of sustainability in case the European Commission would decide or be obliged to interrupt the service. In such case the Virtual Forge Provider will be notified 3 months in advance and will have the right to receive a backup of all the content and all the artifacts that have been published until the dismissal date.
- OSOR.eu has done its utmost to ensure that the material and content displayed on OSOR.eu are accurate. However, errors may occur. OSOR.eu accepts no responsibility or liability for any incorrect content located in the Virtual Forge or in OSOR.eu.
- When the Virtual Forge Provider uploads or post content to the Virtual Forge (OSOR.EU), the Virtual Forge Provider grants OSOR.eu the right to distribute that content, either electronically or via other media, to users seeking to download it through the OSOR.eu site.
Customization
- In case the Virtual Forge Provider customizes the layout of the Virtual Forge, s/he should always leave the sentence “Powered by OSOR.eu ” with the OSOR.eu logo. OSOR.eu leaves at the discretion of the Virtual Forge Provider to identify the most appropriate place where to insert the above sentence.
- The OSOR.eu does not provide any support for the customization of any of the component CSS, SQL, PHP etc. that the Virtual Forge requires.
- The “Terms of Use” and the "10 Principles for Virtual Forges" documents need to be published on the Virtual Forge in a position where the users can easily find it. If the virtual forge uses a different language than English, the above mentioned documents need to be translated by the Virtual Forge Provider into the language that is used in the Virtual Forge and be approved by the OSOR.eu before publication.
Approval and hosting of projects hosted by the Virtual Forge
- The approval of the project requests of the virtual forge is done by the Virtual Forge Provider in co-operation with OSOR.eu. OSOR.eu reserves the right for a final decision on the approval / refusal of individual projects which are to be hosted by the Virtual Forge. The approval is based upon the "10 principles for Virtual Forges".
- Approved projects will appear and be searchable both on the Virtual Forge and OSOR.eu. OSOR.eu reserves the right to keep certain projects which have relevance only on local level to be visible only on the Virtual Forge.
Glossary
Virtual Forge: is a service provided by the OSOR.eu hosted by the OSOR.eu platform. The Virtual Forge service is based on a specific derivative of the OSOR Forge application It is located on the OSOR web site and it benefits from the OSOR technical platform: software (including developments and regular improvements), hardware and telecommunication.
Virtual Forge Provider:The recipient of this hosting, the operator of the Virtual Forge. For the Virtual Forge Provider, the Virtual Forge presents the following advantages: a) implementing its own service (adapting the look, placing its logo, its colors, its own text and content, in its own language, managing its own projects) b) reducing the investment (by re-using the existing OSOR architecture and infrastructure) c) reducing operational costs (by concentrating efforts on its own content and software community, not on infrastructure, maintenance, back-ups etc.
OSOR.eu: OSOR.eu is a service provided by the OSOR.eu Provider under the OSOR.eu project of the European Commission.
OSOR.eu Provider: is the consortium responsible for the maintenance and operating of the OSOR.eu platform within the scope of the OSOR.eu project of the European Commission. The members of the consortium are: Unisys, Merit, GOPA and URJC.
