Description

jAPS 2.0 is an Open Source professional web based platform to build informative, collaborative and service-based Internet and Intranet portals. jAPS is the new way to build high-quality portals and services with customizable components based on best-of-breed Java technology, development patterns and open standard.

Features

jAPS 2.0 platform is based on two main components: - jAIF (java Agile Integration Framework): a framework designed to provide a set of basic components for developing tailored, flexible and accessible portals and to integrate application services - jACMS (java agile content management system): a Web Content Management System, integrated in jAIF, that meets the accessibility requirements defined of W3C WCAG standards. jACMS allows to manage contents in an intuitive, flexible and simple way.

A Thesis submitted for a degree at the Tunis University

Ms. Mouna Sghaier, of the Department of Computer Science of El Manar Tunis University, in collaboration with Jasmin Conseil, a french company of Mr. Karim Djaafar, partner of jAPS project, carried out a degree thesis based on jAPS Open Source project. Prof. Samir Elloumi (TSP) was the supervisor of the thesis titled "Design and Development of the jpTagCloud plugin for jAPS collaboration platform”.

The project, not only meets the needs of Jasmine Conseil (a company that provides services using open source software) but it also a contribute to jAPS open source project.

The project was developed through three different phases: study of jAPS platform to acquire basic knowledge to develop a new plugin, development of the "jptagcloud" plugin according jAPS standards, integration and testing of the plugin in a jAPS based portal.

The "jptagcloud" plugin, integrated in a jAPS based portal, allows to authenticated users, to define the keywords related to a specific resource, and to organize existing tags. The plugin also provides features to create a "cloud" of keywords that represents the tags used in the portal. This allows users to know the most important portal topics, simplifying the navigation.

The project was realized with the collaboration of Rinaldo Bonazzo of Agiletec S.r.l., jAPS Partner.

DIEE of University of Cagliari and Tzente - R&D Partnership

The research group in "Pattern Recognition and Applications" at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari (Italy) and Tzente, jAPS 2.0 official maintainer, today announced a strategic partnership aimed enforcing the security of jAPS 2.0 web-based application.

The group at DIEE will carry out the analysis of jAPS implementations according to the protocols defined by OWASP. The results of the analysis, will lead to the actions needed to get the security certification up to level 2 of the OWASP certification scheme. In addition, DIEE also offers the development of advance monitoring tools for the early detection of intrusion attempts.

jAPS 2.0 Platform is developed according to the software engineering best practices: this allows to simplify and facilitate the security level evaluation process. Moreover, the platform modularity facilitates the introduction of security mechanisms needed to achieve the more appropriate OWASP level.

The partnership provides to Enterprises and Governments, an innovative platform portal with high performance, secure, reliable and suitable in mission critical environments.

About DIEE

The research group in "Pattern Recognition and Applications" at the Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari (Italy) has a 10 years experience in computer security, both at the academic and industrial level. Recently, the activity of the group has been focused on the analysis of the security of web applications. In particular, we focused on the analysis of critical points of web applications, and on the definition of effective solutions. We also developed advanced monitoring techniques aimed at providing early detection mechanisms of intrusion attempts.

Great success of the first jAPS 2.0 Workshop

The first jAPS Workshop has been very successful for jAPS 2.0 and Tzente S.r.l.. Its success has been confirmed on the Information Technology scene and has been welcomed by the enthusiastic approval of many participants.

The workshop has offered an important opportunity to introduce jAPS 2.0 Ecosystem to companies, governments and developers.

The chair of the event was Favia Marzano. The program started with a presentation of the jAPS Ecosystem, then Ingres, MySQL and Pentaho, jAPS Technology Partners, described their projects and solutions integrated in the Platform.

The second session started with a speech on the legal issues related to open source license of jAPS. Then the System Integrators described how and why they use jAPS 2.0:

WhereIsNow becomes jAPS Solution Partner

WhereIsNow is the first software as a service (SaaS) you can use to provide self updating documents, documents capable to update themself to the latest available version.

The integrated solution between jAPS and WhereIsNow provides to the user features to receive instantly and easily updates of documents hosted in an Internet or Intranet Portal through specific services.

Every plugin of WhereIsNow is distributed under the GPL licence: so these are open source projects.

IV Italian Conference on Free Software - Tzente Workshop

New Plugins compatible with jAPS version 2.0.10

Agiletec S.r.l., jAPS System Integrator Partner has developed and released new Plugins for jAPS version 2.0.10.

The Plugins, not certified by Tzente, are available for download in the Community Plugins section on Sourceforge:

* CAS Client: allows to integrate jAPS 2.0 Platform with the Single Sign On CAS (Central Authentication Service)
* Web Trouble Ticketing: provides features for portal users to open ticket which could be managed through specific interfaces in the back office
* Feedback: allows to insert interactive form through which portal users can send feedback to administrators
* Faceted Navigation: provides a tool to organize and explore portal contents hierarchically according to the "facets"
* Address Book: allows to manage an address book
* My Portal: allows user to customize portal pages (the page templates)
* Massive Resource Loader: allows a massive upload of resources from a local drive (the server where the portal is installed), with the possibility to assign a custom name to the file
* Remote Resource Loader: allows to load remote resources, with capability to associate a new custom name to the file
* Newsletter: allows to send contents by email, to users who apply for it, of a specific category
* Avatar User Profile: allows a user to upload an image tha can be used around the portal as Avatar
* Content Notifier: provides a notification system for operation made on public content (publishing, editing, removing). The notification is sent by email to users with the appropriate permissions.

All those plugin upgraded to work with jAPS 2.0.10 are already released; the remaning are intended to be fully compatible.

Among the important innovations of jAPS 2.0.10 version there is the new "entity interface" which allows the configuration of the entity types, the CMS content types and the modification of the entity attributes.

Among other changes, version 2.0.10 includes:

* A Link to a page with the current stable version number in the back office
* Search by page code in Page Management
* Update of moo-jAPS library
* Two new fields in CMS contents: the version and the username
* Translation of Javadoc notes in the source code
* Update of contents preview

jAPS 2.0 at Barcamp Eross "Accessibility and CMS"

In Bologna, on the 22th of January 2010, will be held a convention and a barcamp, organized by Emilia Romagna Region, with the topic:

"Accessibility and CMS opensource: measurements, tools and new economic opportunities."

Barcamp and convention aim is the presentation of project RACER results:

1. convention to present RACER products and kits for accessibility

2. barcamp to meet Governments and compar CMS and projects.

jAPS will attend BarCamp with the presentation: jAPS 2.0 the web accessible to everyone.

jAPS project born to overcome digital barriers. jAPS 2.0 Platform uses Web 2.0 as a model for all people to share information and services (no digital divide!).

jAPS 2.0 goal is to break down the digital barriers making easier access to information even to people with different disabilities.

The Mobile Portal is multi-languages: Italian, English, French, German and Spanish.

Among the important innovations of the new version there is a reorganization of the administration area of jAPS 2.0 platform, in an optical of service integration platform. It is created the plugin jACMS, the Content Management System of jAPS 2.0 Platform, extrapolating from the platform.

Among other changes, version 2.0.8 includes:

* Content rendering engine abstraction
* Change of management catalog showlet engine
* Tree Nodes Refactoring
* Inclusion of listener label backend
* Updated libraries: commons-logging, JDOM, Lucene, and Velocity OSCache
* Update of layout administration interfaces
* Refactorings of source code
* Translation of all the Javadoc notes in the source code
* Inclusion of context file and move the configuration from the systemParams.property to context.xml

IMPORTANT

The last point (inclusion context files and move of the configuration parameters) leads to a change in the installation procedures.

The parameters that were present in the file "/ WEB-INF/conf/systemParams.properties" and are subject to change in installation procedures have been moved to the file "/ META-INF/context.xml.

jAPS 2.0 at the Internet Governance Forum Italia 2009

The aim of the session was to share and reflect on the innovations and define best practices. During the session we have also discussed about the changes brought by Internet into Organization and in Public Administrations.

jAPS Plugin Calendar version 1.0 released

jAPS Plugin Calendar version 1.0 is available for download.

The Plugin displays a monthly calendar. The days of the month are displayed with the following criteria:


* today's date is displayed in bold format

* the days without events are shown in normal format

* the days with events are displayed in underlined format.


These days are a link to the page, responsible to display the events of the day selected.

The Plugin can be integrated in jAPS 2.0 platform without modify any function of the Base Distribution.

The Plugin is declared of type "PurePlugin" and compatible with jAPS 2.0 version 2.0.6.

The Roadmap contains the future developments of jAPS platform. Below there are some of the most significant new features and improvements that will be present in jAPS version 2.0.8, which will be released in October.

Integration of jAPS 2.0 with XWiki and Cas

The integration between jAPS 2.0 Platform and a centralized authentication system consists of an external Wiki, XWiki, and Single Sign On CAS (Central Authentication Service) has been made.

A jAPS Plugin which allows the integration of jAPS 2.0 with CAS, and a connector specifically to the integration of CAS with XWiki, has been made. The connectors keep unmodified the local authentication systems of each application manage by Cas.

Online the new Portal of Ministry of Justice built with jAPS

The new Portal of the Ministry of Justice built with 2.0 jAPS, is online.

The Portal has a new look and a more dynamic and functional architecture of content, integrating some instances of Web 2.0.

The Portal is complying with accessibility requirements of "Stanca Law", and allows to citizens and professionist to access to more than 15 thousand content.

The spirit that animates the project is to involve the user to know the institutions and their activities.
