MT: Government agency supports Plone open source conference
Malta's government agency for IT policy and IT projects, the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA), is helping to organise a conference on the open source content management system Plone, next week Wednesday, coinciding with World Plone Day.
The agency is providing projectors and other equipment to facilitate presentations. MITA's chairman, Claudio Grech, will welcome the participants and one of the staff members, Michel Bugeja, will provide an introduction to Plone.
MITA is not the only government agency involved in the Plone conference. Karl Pullicino, from the Office of the Prime Minister, will detail the use of Plone by this office and Cedric Mallia, from the government's Quality Assurance Unit, will talk about quality assurance for open source software.
MITA expects the Plone conference will help Malta's government agencies' become more confident in the use of this system, the agency explained in an emailed statement. As a consequence, it expects to see more public bodies implement Plone.
The agency says that is has done extensive research on Plone, and that it has been using the software for several of its internal projects for months. "We also have provided guidance to other Maltese public entities to implement their Intranet sites using Plone."
The World Plone Day 2009 Malta event is organised by 2i, an IT services company that provides development and support for Plone in Malta. The conference will take place at the Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise in Valletta.
