The platform will be under planned maintenance tomorrow (Friday the 27th) from 18:00 to 19:30 CEST. During these 90 minutes the OSOR team will modify the network configuration of the web server to include a bandwidth limiter. Due to these changes in the iptables configuration the platform may have small network outages during this period of time.

OASIS invites you to attend a free, 30-minute webinar providing advice and guidance for the use of Free, Libre and Open Source Software by Governments (FLOSS). Date: 3 Dec 2009 Time: 15:00 UTC (17:00 Paris/11:00 Boston/8:00 San Francisco/16.00 Accra/23:00 Beijing). The webinar is hosted by the eGov Member Section and will be presented by two members of their Steering Committee, Charles Schulz and John Borras. This is one in a series of outputs that the Member Section is producing as part of its remit to promote the adoption and implementation of open standards that facilitate interoperability within and between government agencies and all of their stakeholders, and to stimulate the sharing of best practices and examination of use cases concerning the delivery of eGovernment services.

XMPPMessaging: Microsoft XMPP Gateway
Microsoft announced the release of an Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) Gateway for SIP/SIMPLE based Office Communications Server (OCS). Previously interoperabilityfor this communications software with Public IM was license based and limited to MSN (and Windows Live), AOL and Yahoo Messenging Services. Enterprise wide interoperability was limited to other OCS Enterprise implementations only.
The Open Standard XMPP. adopted of such standard by Google and Cisco is becoming even more popular world wide. A number of Open source XMPP Servers may be download and installed within an Enterprise. All these will now be allowed federation with Microsoft OCS Users.
Microsoft are also dropping the federation licence for Windows Live and AOL, while dropping by 50% the cost for federation with Yahoo.

The National Forges Community pages are dedicated to discussing future federation of the OSOR.eu with the National Forges. This community was launched at the Open World Forum during the workshop on October 1st where some proposals and ideas were exchanged for enhanced collaboration: the OSOR.eu wishes to strengthen relations with the National forges and offer more services.

How can I implement it?
The widget is composed of 3 different parts which are:
- The HTML page
- The css file which is entirely customizable (please just leave the OSOR.EU logo)
- The java script which passes the parameters of the search.
In order to make the widget work on your website please follow these simple instructions:
- Download the zip file
- Place the files somewhere in the Document Root of your web server.
- Include the html code, which you can find in the zip file, in your website
- Change the css path, the javascript path and the OSOR.EU logo path as per your configuration.
An example on how to implement it is provided below:

You should be able to see your widget like the image below:
How to use it
For a simple text search, enter your search term in the text field and press the search button. There is also the possibility of search multiple words using logical operator like "AND and OR".If you click on federated repositories, a new window pops up displaying the list of the connected repositories.

OSOR: OSOR.EU - Friday downtime
Dear OSOR.EU users,
As you may have noticed, the OSOR.eu platform had some severe issues last weekend due to an attack that has been conducted on one of our servers. The attacker got access into the server that provides the Metrics for all the projects and he/she managed to upload a script that generated a Denial of Service for most of Friday. The script was sending a huge amount of data to the attacker server, consequence of this a Denial of Service for all of you.
We have isolated the problem, secured the whole OSOR.eu server infrastructure and went through several checks . We are also investigating how to further increase the security of the node and we will announce in the near future what kind of measures have been put in place in order to thwart off similar attacks in the future. We would like to assure you that your projects were safe during the attack also due to the fact that we make full backups of all the projects , every day.
We do apologies to all of you that could not reach our website and also to all of you that could not work on their projects due to this attack.

EUPL: EUPL or GPLv3? A comparison table of the main characteristics and differences.
Since the OSI certification of The EUPL ( the Open Source licence created under the impulsion of the European Commission), a growing number of European administrations and non-profit bodies question the choice (or the recommendation) of a licence in their policy. EUPL or GPLv3? Therefore, a non-exhaustive comparison of the main differences was useful.
